20,000 Leagues of Home Theater – Home Entertainment with a Twist of Steampunk

Nautilus Home Theater

This is quite far from classic steampunk I realize, but it fits the definition in many respects. For those of you that do not know, the Nautilus is the name of Captain Nemo’s submarine in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Michael Malone, a Dallas-based architect designed this home theater based on the text description of the interior of the Nautilus in Jules Verne’s novel of the late 1800s. It is automated via an AMX control system and has a very impressive list of equipment. No word on price, but we are guessing that it cost a pretty penny. The equipment list, as published in Home Entertainment Magazine is featured below:

The A-Team Smart Car

a-team-mini-car.jpg

If you grew up in the 80’s and loved the A-Team, you will love this picture. Someone has taken the Smart car painted it black and grey, slapped on the classic red stripe added the red tire rims and quintessential rooftop spoiler. The original GMC van used by the A-Team would be proud. I want one.

Infrared Sauna, 1000 Calories Burned In 30 Minutes

infared sauna.jpg

The Healthmate saunas uses infrared sauna technology to heat the body directly without having to heat the air as in traditional steam saunas. The company makes some interesting claims, such as, the world’s best-selling infrared sauna, used by NASA and the U.S. Airforce and the grand daddy of them all: their sauna can burn up to 1000 calories in 30 minutes. Interesting.

Healthmate is quick to point out that infrared heat has nothing to do with ultraviolet or atomic radiation, which would provide the opposite of Healthmate saunas’ claimed health benefits, including detoxification, weight loss and holistic well being. All models are fitted with a Panasonic CD/tuner.

Price:$3500 for a single person unit, to $8250 for a five-person unit
