A Semi-attainable Gear and Gadget Wish List for 2009

I always seem to crave so much more than I can possibly use or afford, so why should this year be any different? As long as I am gainfully employed I will be doing my bit to prop up the economy. Here are ten things that I want that I may or may not be able to afford but that I will do my best to get in the upcoming year. If I can manage six of them I will be very happy. (more…)

Apple’s “Brick” a Home Theater PC For the Masses

There has been a bit of talk on potential new Apple “Brick”. More than one blogger suggesting that Apple might be planning a new low-cost desktop; something that would knock some of the stuffing out of the low-cost Hackintosh products that have been hitting the market. I disagree with this theory, and am thinking more along the lines of the Gigaom projection, for the simple reason that there is already a Mac Mini – there is no place for a lighter Mac desktop; and any performance boost that they could give the Mac Mini wouldn’t really constitute a new product. Outdoor Theater With a Twist of Drive-In Era Nostalgia a Work of DIY Mastery

Kevin Van decided that he wanted to build himself an outdoor theater (he had already built one in his bedroom and another in his basement), however, he went a little further than the inflatable Walmart screen and he built much of it himself. Western Themed Home Theater, Bonanza!

If small and cozy home theaters are not your thing, then how about this behemoth? This western themed home theater looks the perfect place for viewing western classics of the big and small screen alike. It is big, really big; large enough to accommodate fourteen luxuriating adults. The theater is a 27-foot by 28-foot slice out of a 20,000 square foot home on Ranch Colony Estates.
“This is one theater that really sets the stage for entertainment,†Dixon says, adding that the owner can activate the theater from any touchpanel in the house. “You begin to hear the theme from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly at low volume, then the fire screen comes down and the uplighting comes on and the ceiling goes from day to dusk. It”s quite an experience.”
It looks an absolute treat, and I am guessing it cost about as much as a small house.
